ROBERT B. HIRSCHHORN of Cathy E. Bennett & Associates, Inc., Lewisville, Texas, is an attorney and a nationally recognized expert in jury and trial consultation. He is a co-author of Blue’s Guide to Jury Selection, which is currently available from Thompson-West Publishing. Mr. Hirschhorn has been a jury consultant since 1985. In 2005, he selected juries that returned more than $750 Million in verdicts. Those cases include Lexar v. Toshiba (breach of fiduciary duty; $461 Million) and Ernst v. Merck (1st Vioxx litigation; $253 Million). He has also assisted lawyers in many high-profile criminal cases including State of Florida v. William Kennedy Smith (sexual assault charges, not guilty verdict), State v. U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (ethics charges, not-guilty verdict), and State v. Robert Durst (acquitted of murder charges). Mr. Hirschhorn has appeared on Good Morning America, MSNBC, Court TV, CNN, Dateline NBC, 48 Hours, Nightline, and many national radio programs. He lectures nationwide to lawyers and judges on the art of jury selection.
NONA C. DODSON has been associated with Cathy E. Bennett & Associates, Inc., as a jury and trial consultant since 1994. She has degrees in English and Psychology and has done Master’s work in Design Science. She has co-authored articles on voir dire workshops and shadow juries, has appeared on CNN and Court TV and lectures on voir dire and jury selection. Some of the civil juries she has selected are: DX Terminals v. Bayer Corporation (Breach of Contract-$10M VERDICT FOR PLAINTIFF); Halliburton, Inc. v. Smith (Patent Infringement-$25M VERDICT FOR PLAINTIFF); Settler’s Way v. Concord Realty (Tortious Interference-$14.9M VERDICT FOR PLAINTIFF); and, ADS, Inc. v. Kent State, et al. (Patent Infringement-VERDICT FOR DEFENDANT). Her criminal work includes: State v. Ontiveros (Sexual Assault of 3 Children; ACQUITTED); State v. Billie (Capital Murder of 3 Children; NO DEATH PENALTY); State v. Forshee (Murder of a Child; ACQUITTED); and, U.S.A. v. Neurhor (Income Tax Evasion; GUILTY). Mrs. Dodson assisted Mr. Hirschhorn with the Nichols and Durst jury selections.
JENNIFER LAPINSKI joined Cathy E. Bennett & Associates, Inc., as an Associate in 1999 after graduating from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. Some of the cases in which she has assisted are: State of Texas v. Robert Durst; DX Terminals v. Bayer Corporation; U. S. A. v. Ken Lay, et al.; Ketchand, et al. v. Coastal Banc. In addition to jury selection, Jennifer conducts focus groups, mock trials and shadow juries for CEB.
